Preserving History, Embracing Heritage

Banks Cottage, located in Parham, Wiggonholt, Horsham, West Sussex, is a Grade II listed property with a rich history, believed to have once served as an illicit drinking house. The storage of contraband is thought to have caused the bending of the internal oak beams. While the property has been extensively refurbished and modernised, it still retains the charm and character of its historical heritage. 

The current custodians have invested in meticulous repairs to restore the historic fabric of the house, including repairing woodworm-infested oak beams and restoring plaster infills using traditional methods, such as horsehair and manure.

Robert worked closely with the custodians to help transform the site into a welcoming business, allowing guests to stay at Banks Cottage while soaking up the breath-taking and varied views of Pulborough Brooks and the South Downs. 

This collaboration has preserved the property’s historic atmosphere and created a unique space for visitors to experience the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
